Masaya's character sheet

Masaya is a young man with slightly spiky, short chestnut-brown hair and green eyes.

He is usually seen with his school uniform.

In his Flying Suit, Masaya wears a suit that covers his entire body except for his shoulders. The suite is white but it is black in various areas, with green stripes. He also wears white gloves and white competitive grav-shoes.

Personality[]

Masaya is always a calm guy, but when it's about the FC club, he becomes serious about what he's doing.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Masaya was always a diligent student at school and never stood out too much from playing regular sports. One day, his father took him to a Flying Circus regional tournament while he was in elementary school, and immediately fell in love with the sport. He came to admire one of the players, Aoi Kagami and became her protege. After six months of training, Masaya entered a tournament full of older and more experienced players, and placed 3rd. Due to this, Masaya was recognized as a representative of Japan, and was internationally recognized as Aoi's disciple.

With Masaya winning his regional, then nationals, Masaya came overwhelmed by the fame he was getting, and was constantly having nightmares and sweating in his sleep. He kept this quiet from Aoi to not worry her, since he knew that he was the joy of her life. Masaya decided to handle this issue on his own, but it stripped him of his sanity. He came to the ultimate realization that he started playing Flying Circus not to become famous, but to have fun flying.

One week before his world championship match, he suffered a terrible defeat against Misaki Tobisawa, who only after two hours of playing, had mastered techniques that took Masaya weeks to perfect, which frustrated Masaya. After he went home, he destroyed his accolades and magazine articles featuring him, spitting on the fact that the real prodigy the media spoke of, wasn't him, but Misaki. From that on, Masaya gave up Flying Circus.

Present Day[]

Masaya was first seen helping Asuka Kurashina with searching for her keys. When he finds the keys, he heard a voice coming from the sky (Misaki Tobisawa) Masaya was surprised when he saw Misaki flying over, asking what he was doing. He said that he was helping Asuka searching for her keys. When they noticed they were going to be late, Misaki suggested to go flying but Asuka had no idea how to do it. Masaya and Misaki were in shock. When they were at the flying send off place, they went and flew over to the school. Arriving at the school, they ran for their life because if they were late, their darkest secrets will be spilled by the teacher.

Abilities[]

Masaya is considered an FC prodigy when he was a child as he was trained by Aoi Kagami, which makes the others have high expectations of him. But this expectation pressured him so much that he loses to Misaki Tobisawa during their first match and he decides to retire from FC. In the Visual Novel of Mashiro Arisaka's route, it's that revealed despite being inactive at FC for a long time, his ability is still high enough that he can defeat Misaki in a match. In the visual novel's Asuka Kurashina route, it was revealed that Masaya did not forget the moves Aoi taught him. He also showcased some of his FC moves (Sonic Boost) to Asuka when Asuka convinced Masaya to fly.

Relationships[]

Asuka Kurashina[]

Masaya is the first person Asuka meets on his first day in Kunahama Academy. Masaya is also the coach of Asuka. Asuka generally feels comfortable with being with Masaya and he feels that he can never leave her alone. It is later revealed, that the two are childhood friends and they used to play together in the past.

In the visual novel, when they first met, Masaya was immediately attracted to her.

Misaki Tobisawa[]

Masaya and Misaki are close friends and on good terms, and they call each other by first names. They also seem to be quite open with each other, and it seems like they have known each other for quite a long time. It was thanks to Misaki that Masaya stopped playing FC for a while.

Mashiro Arisaka[]

Masaya trained her in FC. Masaya was also the one who helped Mashiro change her shoe type from fighter to speeder.

In the visual novel, during Mashiro's route, Masaya promised Mashiro that she would win a proper FC match, and that Masaya would bring back Misaki to their club.

Rika Ichinose[]

They are neighbors and they have been to an FC training camp both schools. Masaya often saw Rika naked, which made her angry at him.

In the visual novel, during Rika's route, Masaya became the coach and second of Rika

Aoi Kagami[]

Masaya described Aoi as someone who captivated him into the world of Flying Circus. When they first met, Aoi was more than happy to coach Masaya in FC, and was willing to listen to all his troubles. In their later years, Aoi is very supportive in Masaya's activities as a member of the Kunahama FC Club, and actively arranges activities for them.

In the visual novel's true ending, it was revealed that Masaya, as a kid, used to be in love with Aoi. He confessed when he was a kid, but it was hinted that Aoi did not take it seriously.

Kazunari Shindo[]

Masaya inspired Shindo to take up FC and as soon as he did, Masaya quit. Shindo has been training in order to beat him someday. While in high school, the two share a good relationship as fellow FC players, as Masaya is often asking Shindo for coaching advice.

Minamo Shirase[]

In the visual novel, Masaya and Minamo were childhood friends. It was also revealed that she liked Masaya romantically in Misaki's route.

Etymology[]

  • The name Masaya means "clear, crystal" (晶) (masa) and "to be, also" (也) (ya).
  • Masaya's surname Hinata means "sunny place" (日向).

Trivia[]

  • Masaya once stopped playing FC because of an overwhelming defeat.
    • In the visual novel, during Misaki Tobisawa's route, it was revealed that Masaya didn't actually lose to Misaki. Masaya was frustrated because Misaki was learning too fast/ too talented and that she was going to beat him sooner or later, so he stopped the match midway, with Misaki even question Masaya, "What about our match?". At that time, Misaki thought that Masaya thought she was too weak and boring to play against that's why he stopped the match.
  • During Masaya's childhood, in the visual novel, his competitive grav-shoes type is the Mizuki Hien Type 1.
  • In the visual novel, at the end of Asuka Kurashina's route, Masaya's new competitive grav-shoes type is the modified Mizuki Hien Type 1.
  • In the visual novel, Masaya's grav-shoes' voice activation is the default "FLY!" or "フライ".
